AMA DISTRICT IV NEWSLETTER edition 1

District IV News The district needs your help. We are beginning the process of creating a new District IV website. I need two things from you all. First, I want your ideas on what you would like to have on the website such as the ability for clubs to post and share their newsletters, and add event calendar and pages dedicated to RC, FF, CL, and more. If you think it must have already been thought of, send it anyway. Second, I want to create a committee of members who enjoy and are familiar with developing and maintaining a website-whether that is for an AMA club or not. If you would like to be part of this committee, please send me an email with some of your accomplishments. “We have never seen anyone on our field from AMA,” was a common complaint I heard when traveling around the district. I have begun to fix that by doubling the number of Associate Vice Presidents (AVP). Please welcome Rusty Kennedy, from near Newport News, Virginia. Rusty is also the National Leader Member Program Coordinator. Also, Mark Smith, of Salisbury, North Carolina, who was an International Miniature Aircraft Association District IV director, and Terry Terrenoire, from Locust Grove, Virginia, who was a District II AVP for more than 20 years before moving to Virginia. Also new to the AVP roster are Mark Weiss, of Wilmington, Delaware, and David Trogdon, who lives near Fayetteville, North Carolina. Bob Sowder, from Troutville, Virginia, will be our FF AVP and John Tate, in Portsmouth, Virginia, will be our CL AVP and continue as our FF/CL contest...

Introduction of Rusty Kennedy, AVP,District IV

Hi District IV members, As the title says I’m Rusty and I’m the AVP for the SE Virginia NE North Carolina area but I can and have gone to many areas within District. Some of you may know me as the AMA Leader Member Program Coordinator and the Chairman of the Leader Member Committee. I am also a member of the National Model Aviation Day committee. District IV has a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/amadistrictIV and I do my best to add something each day. Please visit the site and “LIKE” the page. I’m 60 years old and have been building and flying model airplanes since I was seven. My dad was my building teacher and the local street corner is where I learned to fly Contol line. I still build and fly CL but mostly I fly sport RC. I retired early and I’m available to the District membership anytime. Now lets see if I can get this posted on the Website. Join the Academy of Model Aeronautics Foundation in celebrating model aviation for the third annual National Model Aviation Day, August 15, 2015. National Model Aviation Day was created to encourage clubs to celebrate the hobby and share it with the public. Our chartered clubs have also been asked to conduct a fundraiser to provide assistance to a worthy cause. For the third year in a row, all club efforts will support the Wounded Warrior Project. In the inaugural year, 176 clubs registered for the event, state proclamations were administered in five states, and $76,000 was raised to support the Wounded Warrior Project’s full range of programs and services for this generation of injured veterans and their families.   VISIT NATIONALMODELAVIATIONDAY.ORG TO LEARN...

AMA District news March 2015

Congratulations to James Taylor, fondly known as JT, for receiving the Carl and Beth Goldberg Vital People Award. JT is a member of the Raleigh AeroMasters in Raleigh, North Carolina. This award is presented annually to a modeler whose efforts enhance the enjoyment of the hobby and whose accomplishments are seldom formally acknowledged. JT is one such person. Here is a comment from a member in his club. “JT is one of the most humble, knowledgeable, friendly, RC-loving individuals we have ever met. He is a true ambassador to the RC flying sport/hobby.” It’s hard to know exactly where the website development will be when you read this in March. (I’m writing it on New Year’s Day. Got to get used to that.) We have several talented volunteers to help with the website, creating the district Communications Committee, and we will have begun the design in January. More current information will be sent out via email through the DISTRICT IV NEWS on items of interest to our community. Look for the announcement that we have a district Facebook page and be sure to like us. The district is gearing up for a great flying season. Look for me or any of the AVPs as we attend your events and meetings. We are there to ensure you are getting the most out of your membership, so ask questions and give us your comments. We represent you. CDs and clubs, be sure to send me your event reports so I can let the rest of the district hear about it in this column. The following report comes from Dave Deacon, president of Prince George’s Radio Control (GRC) club...
